So what makes the Strida such a great design for me?
- The folding mechanism is brilliantly simple and lightning quick – release the bottom tube pin, swing the front wheel backwards onto the powerful rear wheel magnetic clamp, raise the bottom tube and click into place. ‘Just like that!’ as the late Tommy cooper would say, all in 10 seconds.
- The greaseless toothed belt drive, low rolling resistance and light weight, means you don’t have to put so much effort into pushing the pedals around.
- The drum brakes front and rear are amazingly efficient even in the wet.
- The ‘A’ frame design flexes just sufficiently to smooth out bumps accentuated by the small wheels and high tyre pressures, and the gel saddle nicely cushions your rear end!
- The single fork frame tubes make changing tyres or repairing punctures very easy – you don’t even have to take the wheel off (not that I’ve had to do either of these yet!)
- The Strida is a great ice breaker - when I’m out, it always attracts comments - ‘cool/wicked/great/unusual bike mate’, and when I stop, someone always asks about it.
I just love this bike – if I was a Pharaoh, I’d be buried with it for the afterlife!
